2018 Dog Sledding

Winter adventure, driving a team of dogs

Program Highlights

Spend a weekend at our mushers camp where participants all about the sport of dog sledding with trained sled dogs and experience everything it takes to live and work with sled dogs under the guidance of an experienced musher. Each youth will ride in and drive a dog sled through the trails of Tomahawk.

Possible activities: Dog Sledding, Orienteering, Cross Country Skiing, Winter Shelter Building, Tubing

Grade Levels

Recommended for 8th grade and older.

Cost

$225/youth, $67/adult

Sleeping Arrangements

Sleep inside Friday night with the option to sleep outside Saturday night.

Schedule

Friday:
7:30-8 pm Check-in, assign bunks, check out gear, winter weather training.
8:30 pm Go to Mushers Camp
9:00 pm Welcome and introductions
9:15 pm Feed dogs/Cracker Barrel
11:00 pm Lights out, all quiet

Saturday:
8:00 am Feed dogs
8:30 am Breakfast
9:30 am Group 1 mushing
12:30 pm Lunch at mushing camp
1:00 pm Group 2 mushing
3:00 pm Afternoon hike/ski
5:00 pm Dinner preparation
6:00 pm Evening meal and campfire
8:00 pm Evening star gazing/trek
9:00 pm Return to Mushing Camp or prepare for sleeping outside

Sunday:
8:00 am Feed dogs
8:30 am Breakfast
9:30 am Clean up bunkhouse
10:00 am Tomahawk Iditarod
10:30 am Return to Base Camp/check in gear
12:00 pm Banquet
Trading Post open 11-12 am & 1-1:30 pm
1:30 pm Depart for Home
